join our Music ministry
We are so excited that you are interested in joining our worship band! Please take a moment to read up on the values and expectations of this ministry, and then you will find an application to fill out at the bottom of the page.
Worship Band Values & Expectations
- We hold of utmost importance that anyone volunteering on the worship team has placed their faith in Jesus and has a personal, functioning relationship with Him. We cannot lead others where we ourselves have not already gone.
- We value volunteers that live lives worthy of the calling they have received. As stated elsewhere, worship is not simply an event or a song, but a way of life and an orientation of the heart. We expect that your life offstage and outside of church should resemble your life onstage and in church.
- We value volunteers that are plugged into the life of the church they are serving. We expect that anyone volunteering in our music ministry is a regular attendee of Granger Missionary Church.
- We value volunteers that are devoted to the development of their craft. We hope that you are intentional about the maintenance and betterment of the skill you are bringing our church. We seek to eliminate distractions during our worship service, and the easiest way to do that is to show up polished and prepared.
- We value volunteers that are willing to commit to the team. That entails being present and punctual for our rehearsals, as well as spending time during the week practicing your parts.
Our worship band has two regular rehearsal times. Team members are expected to be able to attend both on a weekend they are scheduled. If you can't make a rehearsal in a given week, let me know ahead of time and we can work something out, but team members should not make a habit of missing rehearsals. We have a midweek rehearsal on Wednesdays with a call time of 6:30pm and finishing no later than 8:30pm, as well as a Sunday morning run-through with a call time of 8:15am, finishing by 9am. Moreover, rehearsal is not practice. Practice is what you do on your own time during the week, and rehearsal is where we gather to rehearse what we've already practiced. Life gets busy, so there is always grace, but so much as you can help it, rehearsal should never be the first time you are playing a scheduled song.
Platform Etiquette
Granger Missionary Church does not have any sort of church-wide dress code, but as those leading from the platform, we ask that volunteers dress presentably. This entails not wearing too casual of clothing (such as shorts, ripped clothing, or sweatpants), and not wearing clothing that could be considered "revealing." As a loose principle, if you wouldn't wear it to work, you probably shouldn't wear it on the platform.
